Wireless optical test network KORUZA
Wireless optical network KORUZA has been growing steadily with the active work at Institute IRNAS and now the wireless optical units have been deployed in wlan slovenija network to form an ultra-fast connection between nodes in center of Maribor, connecting the creative center Tkalka with fablab Kreatorlab, Institute IRNAS, educational center Academia, Narodni Dom Maribor theater and Transnational Guerilla Art School GT22, creating open access for people in the area and offering direct connectivity between locations.
The purpose of this deployment is twofold, enabling ultra-fast connectivity for direct collaboration and testing the performance and reliability of wireless optical system KORUZA. The network is deployed as a wireless mesh network with WiFi links serving at backup at approximately 20Mbps capacity and KORUZA links at 1 Gbps capacity, carrying the user data the majority of time, except when experimental alignment algorithms are tested.
As the test network continues to expand and more links are deployed, the performance of KORUZA system in case of rain and fog will be evaluated, as well as effects of daily temperature variations and associated thermal expansion of mounting and units themselves, baselining the requirements for design of next generation KORUZA for general use.
